ASOIAF Fans: 6100 word Theon Chapter from The Winds of Winter! The flip side of this is that... he said he's written 12000 words. :| So, two chapters. 8[

This book is coming out in 2016 or something, I bet. GRRM, DO YOU NOT KNOW THE APOCALYPSE IS COMING MUCH, MUCH SOONER??? I HAVE TO KNOW WHO JON'S REAL PARENTS ARE BEFORE THE WORLD ENDS. The rest, meh, I can take it or leave it. >.>

Yeah Laura said it's not going to be one book per season now, but like... won't that present a few problems? Namely, season 3 will be MONUMENTALLY DULL, and 4, WICKED EXCITING? All odd numbered seasons will be destined to suck because the first 2/3-3/4 of the last three books have been painfully slow to me, lots of banality about lineage of people we never see again and people simply moving from one place to another with v. little actually happening until the latter third/quarter of the book? Also, Arya will be 12 going on 24 by the time they finish filming them. :P

And I mean, seven seasons of a tv show is kind of plenty, imo, even if it's a good tv show? Most good tv shows don't stay good for more than four or five seasons, and while this one is different in that it has a definite (yet still unwritten) end point, I think ten seasons would simply be too much for me to really care to watch as avidly, or for actors to want to sign on to do? The characters grow over the books, but saying yes, I'm going to do this show for the next 10-12 years... it's a pretty big commitment.

All of those exact ruminations/reservations, plus your pondering over it in the previous comment, are why I'm just... kind of assuming that it'll run for 4 seasons, maybe 5 or so, then get cancelled. 8( Sorta like HBO's next Rome. I fear their budget being too high, there being too much material for them to get through, there not being enough material if GRRM doesn't pick up the pace, actors wanting to move on to other projects, the kids getting old ... etc etc etc. Even though a TV show is the only way to adapt a story of this scope properly, it just feels impossible to see it through to the end.

So I'm girding myself for at least 4 awesome seasons of a story I love, because I adored the first season, and I will just not hope for much beyond that point. ASoS was my favourite book so far, so I'm just super excited to see that one made :D

I feel like these are compelling reasons for doing one book per season, myself. Condense some of the extraneous stuff that happens in the first halves of the books, get to the good stuff faster, try to get through them all before Bran turns 20, etc. I too think that they won't be able to finish the entire series, more because we have 10-12 years before the last book's out, if past precedence can be counted upon. I think that the budget argument is also valid, because it looks like season two will be on par, quality wise, and the world only gets bigger from there, you know? They shoot in Ireland and Malta, and that's amazing, but soon it's not just going to be King's Landing and Winterfell and the Wall, soon there will be Dragonstone and Sunspear and Braavos and Pentos and the Iron Islands. The scope of this whole thing is enormous, and while their production team is practically my dream job (ugggggh, I want to work in their costume department so harrrrd), it's going to cost a fortune if they wind up filming with five different crews in five countries, clothing five hoardes of extras and dressing 25 different sets... if they did all seven seasons, this is probably hundreds of millions of dollars. Not that HBO doesn't have it, ROFL!

IDK. Write faster, GRRM, don't try to stretch it out, HBO. It's funny, because with the Potter films, I always felt like "Noooo, there's not enough time to do this right!" but in this case I feel like ten hours is just right, to cover each of the books. If it was twenty hours per book for the last few, the show would get repetitive and sluggish. For me at least.

Yeah, my thoughts EXACTLY. They've talked a lot about how expanding the scope for S2 has been magical and marvelous and great, and I am stoked for that because it sounds/looks like they're keeping up so far -- but the scope just keeps expanding with each book, and I just feel that eventually they are going to plateau at the point where it is no longer possible/feasible to shoot all of this.

We're on two of presumably four continents in the story now; but I wouldn't put it past him to get Sothoros and Norvos in there too. HBO: Shooting Television on Four Imaginary Continents. :P
