[insanejournal.com profile] chthonian is finally watching Kings and OMFG YAY SOMEONE TO SQUEE AT ABOUT IT. \o/ I don't even care that it's like, 2 years post cancellation. Everyone must watch this show and love it. *bangs gavel* If I can force enough of you people to get into it, I can demand a little PSL and my RP life will be complete.

Anyone who has Pottermore: Do any of you know what the 1531, 4157 counter is, up in Harry's closet bedroom in chapter 2? I keep thinking it's some sort of easter egg, a la dialing 'MAGIC' into the cell phone on Jo's website, but IDK where to use it. I have this suspicion that it's something to do with the last locked charm.

Anyone who doesn't have Pottermore - my extra one that I registered by accident is now activated. Who needs it?

Nevermind my bullet list of things they should tweak, for if they ever do ask for more feedback than the silly beta tester form.
  • Duels & Potions obviously need some fixing
  • When practicing spells for dueling, there should be a "Keep Practicing" button, alongside the "Return to Dueling" one, so that it takes us back to our textbooks instead of to dueling.
  • The site lacks daily visit appeal; once you've gone through the book and brewed a couple potions, there's not much to do. Incorporate some sort of once-daily task to earn knuts/sickles, which can be used to buy more potion ingredients/wizarding supplies, which would in turn increase possible house points.
  • Everyone and their mom wants optional sound.
  • Purchasable Chocolate Frogs! Make collecting and trading a bigger thing in game.
  • Gobstones? Chess?
  • Readable pages in books?
  • Cauldrons don't actually change the amount of time a potion takes to brew, despite being labeled 'slow' and 'fast'.
  • If you own more than one cauldron, you should be able to brew more than one potion.
  • Even when you check 'remember me,' it doesn't.
  • I can't go re-collect potion ingredients.

Here's a cheatsheet for collectibles in pmore, if anyone can't figure out where to find/buy an item/book/ingredient/card that someone else has. Also, as it stands now, if you gift a collectible item to a friend, you can go back and re-find the item for your trunk, you just won't be earning house points for finding it! Share the love! :D

Hey friends, who wants to play a Draco Malfoy in 2010?

I need him to have been a Death Eater, and I'd love him to be his usual over-achieving douchebag, Granger-hating self rather than a ~*~*MISUNDERSTOOD*~*~ fellow who's been reformed and now fosters homeless kittens because he just wants to be loved by everyone. :| We have the whole Trio, and Pansy and Blaise and Goyle and lots and lots of other Slytherins and one other fellow Death Eater who's been paroled (Terence Higgs, played by me, hence the want). My mom is flipping channels, and on that horrible children's beauty pageant show on TLC, I just saw a girl who was named - and it was spelled out in one of those title cards below her face in an interview segment, so this is truly how it was spelled - Saryniti. Pronounced Serenity.

What the fuck, people? Why are you so mean to your own prawjeni?

Is it bad that upon noticing that NS has a (yet uncast) lady centaur working at the Ministry, I immediately thought, "THIS MUST HAPPEN!"?

There's a ton of new games that have started in the last 2 months, so I just wanted to float a possible premise, and see if there was interest; either in the present or in the future.

Have you ever heard the expression 'escape into a good book'? Well it's not quite as relaxing as you'd think. All across the world, people are doing just that - one minute they're themselves, curling up with a page-turning mystery, an Austen romance, homework for an English class, and the next they've mysteriously vanished, only to reappear inside the book they'd fallen asleep reading - as one of the characters, no less - with no way back to their home.

Eventually, each of them will find one door within the realm of their story, one door that leads to a room that really should not be there. The doors all lead to the Great Library, unimaginably vast and filled with row after row of sturdy shelves, holding every work of fiction ever written. It's a gathering point, a place where those penned by Shakespeare and Sallinger alike can meet, move freely, and try to figure out a way to get back home. But while they do so, their actions begin to differ from the novels out of which they've stepped, and bring about changes in the classics we know and love so well. As the stories start to fall apart, so do the characters themselves.

It's a balancing act, it's a choice that everyone has to make for themselves. Can you play a part to bide some time, can you work with the others trapped inside the library to find a way home?

Sort of a twist on Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, if people are familiar with that at all; or a bit like the inverse of Living Fiction, if people played there a couple years back?

I'm blocked. I'm blocked and indecisive. I'm blocked, indecisive, and contemplating just scrapping everything I have for New Salem.

What do people need? Because as it is now I'm just not able to click any of my ideas into place, and I could maybe use some new ones.

My dad often falls asleep in his recliner, and the cat is often wedged between his knees, napping too. My mom walked into the room, looked at them fondly, did that thing where you mime taking a photograph for your memory, and then turned around and started talking to me at full volume, shocking them both from their slumber. I haven't laughed like that in weeks.

My mother's friend's husband likes to send her about twenty spammy style e-mails of jokes and videos, pretty much every day. But today, he has shared something AWESOME.

Game Pimp!

Dec. 13th, 2010 01:03 am
igpayatinlay: (Default)
Alright folks, it is time for my once yearly game pimp. I know several new games have just opened this month, but I feel like this one is definitely worth checking out if you like Harry Potter rp. It's a classic, old school, completely canon game that centers around the last few months of Deathly Hallows which is an interesting time for all the characters in the series. Feel free to ask questions or offer some feedback!

This is a perilous time for every witch and wizard, no matter whether they have already chosen a loyalty or resist getting any more involved than they absolutely must. As the Centaurs read in the fires and stars, the time between two wars ended many months ago, and now as the winter holidays draw to a close and lies are spoken just as often and as acceptably as truth, witches and wizards across Britain and beyond will find their character tested as they face the troubles of outright war.

The moderators are seeking players eager to write collaboratively with one another, who want a highly active yet short-term game where they can richly bring a character or two fully to life during some of their most defining moments. Could this be you?

Game opens with ten players.

Also, meme! Pick one or more of my characters and one or more of yours, and I'll tell you something they've always wanted to say to your character but could never bring themselves to say out loud.

SNOW DAY!

Lots of snow, at least a foot of snow!

Work closed early so that people could still get home before it got dark! The walk from the car to my door, the snow came up almost to my knees! I think technically it's even a blizzard because of the wind and rapid accumulation. On the less fun side, it's supposed to continue snowing for two days, I think the internet and power might go out. :(

You know what you probably should not do on the same day as the first day of NaNo? Buy a DSi-XL on sale at Costco. Procrastination City, Population: Me.

I'm planning to make a wave of layouts, and thought I'd ask my friends what they really like/really dislike in layouts, or if you have a specific idea you've always wanted and it's never been made.
  • Sidebar
    • Does it matter if it's left or right, or should it be capable of both?
    • How do you feel about horizontal sidebars across the top of the journal?
    • Do you want your sidebar to be able to display lots of tags and links and list of your entries, or does it suffice if you have just your basic IJ links, plus space for a few more from your links list?
    • Do you want a calendar in your sidebar?
  • Fonts
    • Serif vs. Sans Serif?
    • Large or small?
  • Colors & Patterns
    • Solids or prints?
    • Bold colors or muted ones?
    • High contrast (WGAA compliant) or low contrast?
  • Images
    • Banner or no banner?
    • Thoughts on other images, in the background, sidebar, entry title, etc.?
  • Etc.
    • Rounded edges or square?
    • How do you feel about new features, such as drop shadow, glow, etc.?
    • Anything else?
You are wonderful, thank you! ♥

There is absolutely nothing that smells as good as cookies baking, although, it's also moderately torturous, because you cannot have at them immediately unless you want to burn your mouth.

Well, Check is done (thanks everyone, for making it so awesome while it lasted!), and for the first time in a while, I have zero characters. I have a couple holds, but I'm actually not 100% sure I'm going to follow through with them. I want to play with everyone at Spygame and it looks well thought out and has lovely coding, but I'm also a bit spied out. I held Remus at Incognito for the same reasons exactly, but I've never been a Marauders type girl. I'm going to think on them for a bit, maybe try to get a bit done for applications, but I'm also thinking about going ahead and attempting to do a Merlin game.

On that note though, I don't like the third season at all. Is that just me? The second season ended with such promise, and the half dozen episodes or so before that were great too. The characters were maturing, the plots were gaining intricacy, it was grand. But nothing - not even almost being sacrificed for the good of Camelot - can justify Morgana's cheesy-bad-acting-hatred-of-everyone, Arthur is regressing back to an immature butthead, Gwen is floundering around doing... absolutely nothing, and the plots have gone back to the one-episode-only format, centering around Camelot being invaded by some strange magical creature/force, and now, farting. It makes me mad because it was honestly something so wonderful at the end of season two, I thought the show was finally starting to come into its own and showing the growth of the characters as they work towards more of the well-known legends. Another show jumps the shark. :-/
