I'm planning to make a wave of layouts, and thought I'd ask my friends what they really like/really dislike in layouts, or if you have a specific idea you've always wanted and it's never been made.

• Sidebar
  • Does it matter if it's left or right, or should it be capable of both?
  • How do you feel about horizontal sidebars across the top of the journal?
  • Do you want your sidebar to be able to display lots of tags and links and list of your entries, or does it suffice if you have just your basic IJ links, plus space for a few more from your links list?
  • Do you want a calendar in your sidebar?
• Fonts
  • Serif vs. Sans Serif?
  • Large or small?
• Colors & Patterns
  • Solids or prints?
  • Bold colors or muted ones?
  • High contrast (WGAA compliant) or low contrast?
• Images
  • Banner or no banner?
  • Thoughts on other images, in the background, sidebar, entry title, etc.?
• Etc.
  • Rounded edges or square?
  • How do you feel about new features, such as drop shadow, glow, etc.?
  • Anything else?

I'm participating!

Sidebar: I like sidebars. I have no preference for left or right. I prefer simple layouts, so too much stuff in the sidebar irks me. I do not like horizontal sidebars as much as I like... side sidebars?

Fonts: Serif! Serif! Smallish, but not too small. I think you like yours smaller than I do, but I am farsighted and prefer to actually be able to read stuff :D

Colors & Patterns: I like pretty, iconic patterns in colors maybe they were never supposed to be. Like hot pink damask, though I also like classic, classy things. I don't like plaid, and solid colors just don't kick it as much for me as a subtle pattern.

Images: I kind of hardly ever use layouts with images in them, so I guess I don't like them? Or I don't often find layouts that use them in a way that I like. I like the flower you have on Padma's old layout, and they're been a few sort of art nouveau inspired things in layouts I've really liked.
